Üdio

Several misspent years lurking on dancefloors across the country have given this fresh and forward-thinking collective much food for thought - so much so that they are now bringing their unique dancefloor aesthetic to you every two months in their spiritual home since January ‘08, the Gramaphone Basement.

Udio is the name given to their heady club-night which was allegedly the brainchild of a mythological creature called the Enchantress (read more about her on the blog). They take a decidedly DIY approach to clubbing, as evidenced by their proudly ramshackle lighting, their insistence on only booking acts on musical merit rather than household ubiquity and their resolve to keep the door tax down to a fiver without fail. With recent sessions featuring talent like Trevor Jackson (Playgroup), Greg Wilson (Tirk), Bill Brewster (DJHistory.com) and Jamie Woon, Üdio has been a sell-out success, a sweaty melee of dancefloor goodness soundtracked by psychedelic rock, disco, acid house, funk and many more genres that we don’t have room to mention. The result is a clubnight refreshingly free of attitude, with an all-encompassing policy extending from the music selection to the clientele. The Üdio crew, led by the Desi Punk Contingent and lovable space cadet Earfworm Jim have spent far too much time contemplating the art of enjoyment and it shows.

Music Policy: LightsDownDiscoCosmicFunkAcidHouseBoogieSoulPsych + Beyond..
